Frog Dissection: Investigating Systems

No votes have been submitted yet.

In this lesson, students will work together to identify the systems by using a preserved frog. The systems that will be studied are the digestive, respiratory, and circulatory system. Prior to these labs, students have already studied the systems and this lab will be used to reinforce what they have learned. When using the preserved frog, one system will be studied per day.

The organs will not be cut, rather they will pinned and flagged with the organ’s name. Once done, the pins will be removed for the next class. This will allow the frogs to be used over and over for each period.

On day 4, students will also determine if there is a a correlation between the size of the frog’s hind legs with the size its stomach, lungs, and heart. Students will measure the organs in millimeters to make that correlation.
