Safe Travels: Exploring Energy in Crashes
by Hannah McKolay
This lesson is used to introduce our unit on Energy in a 9th grade physics course; however, it can be adapted to various grade levels and contents.
It can be completed over 1–3 days, depending on your pacing and any extension opportunities. For 9th grade, we complete the project in 1.5-2 days. Any extra time is spent discussing successful designs and improvements for the “least crashworthy” designs.
