Robots on Mars

No votes have been submitted yet.

Students will compare two non-fiction texts about the Mars Rover, Opportunity. They will then use their knowledge of Computer Science and coding to develop a code instructing a robot to traverse an obstacle field successfully without direct intervention from the programmer. This is similar to the challenges Opportunities' programmers faced due to the 40 minute delay that occurs when sending information from and to Mars.

Note: Lesson utilizes programmable robots of teacher choice (Wombat robots from KIPR, LEGO Robotics, etc.), but can be completed without robots, too.

Incorporates Arizona Computer Science standards for 5th Grade.
