Past, Present, Future; Water in the Southwest Desert
This is a week-long unit which includes the following lesson objectives:
-Explain that a watershed is an area that collects water and delivers it to a specific area like a lake or an ocean.
-Show how the shape of the land affects how and where the water flows.
-Model how flowing water can transport things.
-Understand that water is vital for life, so it is important to know where it comes from, the importance of conservation and protection.
-Students will investigate the Colorado River’s physical characteristics, learn how the water is used and apportioned by those who live in southwest desert regions.
-Students will use the interactive links to read and explore the Colorado River’s history, current status and track water flow throughout the seven states.
