Measurement and Data Collection in the Garden (3rd Grade Gardening Lesson 2)
Students will tend to their garden boxes and observe the plants that are starting to grow. Students will take measurements and start a graph on growth throughout the growing cycle of their garden before they harvest their plants for food.
List of Materials
watering container
plant box with already growing plants
observation notebook or page
pencil
grid paper to help with math graph making organization
a ruler or a yard stick if plants are taller
Agenda- 50 minutes
-Discuss plant needs and current weather conditions- 5 minutes
- Gather supplies to take outside- 5 minutes
- Go out to the garden to measure plants and record observations and plant heights- 20 minutes
- Create graph with plant measurements- 15 minutes
- Discuss and compare observations and cause as to why our gardens are different or similar- 5 minutes
