Desert Flora and Natural Dye

Students will explore the history and processes of using natural dyes, focusing on Sonoran desert flora. They will use examples from colonial times from colonists as well. They will investigate how people used these plants, specifically Palo Verde blooms, to create dyes. The lesson includes extracting natural dyes by designing an experiment from understanding chemical properties and the engineer design process. Students will need to communicate results in a multimedia format.
