Solar Tomorrows: Future Thinking

PD Hours 1.00

Tired of teaching the same old science fiction texts that imagine a future that has already passed? Or science fiction that is all dystopian doom and gloom? New and hopeful sci-fi created by Arizonans is out there! The Solar Tomorrows Project through ASU's Center for Science and the Imagination has created a new writing project that uses contemporary, localized science fiction to help students imagine what a solar-powered future could look like. Learn how to walk students through the resources so that your students can create their own short stories and essays imagining a solar-powered future.

This exciting event will be run by Annie Holub and Erika Perea, two of ASU’s Center for Science and the Imagination’s Solar Fellows. Annie has 20 years of teaching experience across multiple grade levels and was a journalist for Tucson Weekly and other national publications, whereas Erika is a sixth grade teacher who is currently pursuing her master’s degree in elementary education, as well as being a strong advocate for environmental literacy and education.
