Middle School Math: Modeling Ratios and Proportions

⭐This webinar will give an overview of one of four units developed to incorporate Modeling Instruction pedagogy into the middle school mathematics classroom. This session will give an overview of the unit on Modeling Ratio and Proportion, and offer time for attendees to review and discuss key activities and the storyline of the unit.

⭐Activities in the unit focus on middle school mathematics standards and are appropriate for (and easily adjustable to) grade levels ranging from elementary to high school. The overarching goal of the unit is to help students build a rich model of what it means to reason proportionally. Ultimately, this model will include a set of interconnected representations for ratios and proportions that go deeper than simply learning a set of mathematical skills.
